Credit Report
Your Access to a Free Credit Report
- You have the right to receive one FREE copy of your credit report from each or all three major nationwide credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, at your request, once every 12 months, and it must contain all of the information in your file at the time of your request, including medical information, and in most cases, the sources of the information. Also, the consumer reporting agency (CRA) must give you a list of everyone who has requested your report within the past year, and two years for employment related requests. Because more than one consumer reporting agency (CRA) may have a file on you, call each until you locate all the agencies maintaining your file. Go to:
- www.annualcreditreport.com Or call 1-877-322-8228
- Or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form (you can print it from www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/requestformfinal.pdf) and mail it to:
Annual Credit Report Request Service P.O. Box 105281 Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
- It is entirely your choice whether you order all three credit reports at the same time or order one now and others later. The advantage of ordering all three at the same time is that you can compare them. (However, you will not be eligible for another free credit report from the Central Source for 12 months.) The advantage of ordering one now and others later (for example, one credit report every four months) is that you can keep track of any changes or new information that may appear on your credit report. Remember, if you order from only one company today, you can still order from the other two companies at a later date.
- Do not contact the three nationwide consumer reporting companies individually for your free annual credit report. They provide free annual credit reports only through www.annualcreditreport.com, 1-877-322-8228, and Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
- Remember: annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY authorized online source for you to get a free credit report under federal law. Beware of other sites that may look and sound similar. Some other sites claim to offer "free" credit reports, but may charge you for another product if you accept a "free" report. annualcreditreport.com will NEVER send you an email solicitation for your free annual credit report, or use pop up ads.
- The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, wants to hear from you if you paid for what you thought was your free annual credit report. File a Complaint at www.ftc.gov/
- SPAM: The FTC also wants you to forward any unsolicited emails you've received offering you a free annual credit report. Send them to spam@uce.gov
- For more information visit the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website at www.ftc.gov
