Don't pay for advice on federal student aid information, it's free and is available from a variety of easily accessible, and reputable, sources. Students should also be aware that there is no fee to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs offer aid through a variety of methods, as gift aid in the form of grants (money that does not have to be repaid), and as self help aid in the form of work study (job earnings) and loans (money that must be paid back at interest).

Federal Pell grants
Money that does not have to be repaid.

Stafford Loans
Available either through the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, which comes from private lenders such as banks, or the Direct Loan (DL) Program, which comes directly from the U.S. government.



Plus Loan (for parents)
For parents, also available through the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, which comes from private lenders such as banks, or the Direct Loan (DL) programs, which comes directly from the U.S. government.

Student Loan Consolidation
Available either through the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, which comes from private lenders such as banks, or the Direct Loan (DL) Program, which comes directly from the U.S. government.

Campus-Based Programs:
1) Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
2) Federal Work Study (FWS), self help aid in the form of work study (job earnings)
3) Perkins Loan
