American Homeownership and Economic Opportunity Act
- The American Homeownership and Economic Opportunity Act of 2000 as reported by the House Committee on Banking and Financial Services on March 29, 2000, aims to promote homeownership among lower income families who might otherwise not be able to afford it.
- The bill would amend a number of existing statutes in an attempt to reduce regulations, to facilitate access by lower income families to federal mortgage insurance and loan guarantees, and to increase the flexibility available to local governments in using both newly authorized and existing programs for providing homeownership assistance.
- The bill would authorize appropriations to fund existing housing programs as well as the new initiatives.
